How to Prepare Your Home for an Exterior Repaint
The simple things you can do before we arrive, and what we take care of once we are there.
A good exterior paint job is mostly preparation. The painting itself is the quick part. Here is what we handle, and the few simple things you can do before we arrive to keep everything running smoothly.
What you can do before we start
- Clear access around the house. Move pot plants, furniture, bins and anything stored against the walls so we can reach every surface.
- Trim back plants and trees that are touching or growing over the walls and eaves.
- Move cars out of the driveway and away from the work area, especially where we are spraying.
- Secure pets and let us know about them, since gates will be opening and closing.
- Point out problem areas. If you know of leaks, rot, cracks or spots that have peeled before, tell us up front so we can deal with them properly.
What we take care of
The prep is where a job is won or lost, and it is all included in our work. That means a thorough wash to get rid of dirt, salt, chalk and mould, scraping and sanding back any flaking paint, filling cracks and gaps, treating rust and bare timber, and masking up windows, doors and anything that is not being painted. Only once the surface is clean, sound and dry do we start coating.
What to expect on the day
We protect your property, keep the site tidy and clean up as we go, not just at the end. Most exterior jobs run over a few days depending on size, prep and the weather, since we do not paint in rain or high wind. We keep you in the loop on timing throughout.
